HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot and robbed of his scooter at Tidwell Park in northeast Houston on Tuesday evening, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers responded to the shooting at 7 p.m. at the park on 9700 Spaulding Street.

HPD said the teen was riding his electric scooter near the playground when he was confronted by three suspects.

Police said the suspects shot the 14-year-old in the upper leg and stole his scooter. Park personnel initially tended to the teen before he was taken to the hospital. His injury is not considered life-threatening.

Officers quickly located the three male suspects, believed to be either juveniles or young adults, at an apartment complex adjacent to the park. All three were armed, Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Police have not recovered the scooter.

HPD robbery detectives will continue the investigation.
